Skiers and Snowboarders..why can't we all just get along?

I've read about there in several places and have experienced it myself personally: there often seems to be animosity between snowboarders and skiers. I myself am a snowboarder and am relatively new at it, and occasionally at resorts I'll get rude comments thrown at me by skiers passing by. Is there something about the way snowboards affect the snow that pisses skiers off? It just seems that there is this unspoken feeling among skiers that snowboarders are taking over their mountain. I don't want to make this seem one sided since I'm sure both sides are to blame.

What are your thoughts?

Interesting question. I've noted this as well. One instance I recall is the opening of Toas Ski Valley in New Mexico to snowboarders. Up until then, the mountain was open only to skiers. Reading about it on the internet you could easily observe the war going on between skiers and boarders. Some skiers were complaining that boarders coming in will destroy their mountain (both by messing up the grooming and by attracting disrespectful juveniles), while the snowboarders responded with arrogance claiming that their sport is superior...

Personally, I love both skiing and snowboarding and plan on visiting Toas this winter!
