Most important snowboard gear?

When buying all your snowboarding equipment such as board, boots, bindings etc, what should the distribution of relative cost be for someone on a budget? For instance, should I make sure to spend most (in relative terms) on a board and go cheaper on boots? Is there a general rule or advice anybody can give, or are all components equally as important?

Basically if I have a fixed budget, I am wondering how I should distribute it across all this gear I have to buy.

Definitely the most overlooked piece of snowboarding equipment is the boots...BIG mistake! |  commented on 11-02-2009 by jim al

Don't overlook the boots!! Time after time I've seen people spend their entire budget on a fancy new Burton board and end up skimping on the boots by purchasing either a poorly made off-brand or not spending sufficient effort fitting for the proper size.

So if you had to ask me, while all it takes all the components to have a proper experience, I would advice beginners to make sure that spend enough time/money on a great pair of boots.
